Fall Test Dates Are Just Around the Corner: Are Your Students Ready?
The new school year has just begun. Students are getting reacclimated to their environments; catching up with friends; getting to know new schedules, classes, and teachers; and jumping back into their school routines. This is a busy time for our students, and it makes sense that during this time of transitions that they may not be particularly concerned with test prep or thinking about registering for this fall’s upcoming tests.
Of course, starting a new school year while also studying for the ACT® or SAT® can be a lot to take on, but the benefits far outweigh the costs. Think of it this way: it’s a lot easier for students to find a balance for school, extracurriculars, and test prep in the fall when the school year is just beginning rather than when the year is well underway, congested with school projects/tests/midterms/concerts/hullabaloo to contend with. As long as students have a well-balanced plan to follow, they’ll be more than able to take on the October tests.

Why Take The October ACT® Or SAT®?
There will be students—and even parents—who may find jumping back into test prep at the start of a new school year to be too challenging. But, what we know is that October is an excellent time for our clients to take their ACT® or SAT® tests.
Here’s why:
For Juniors: Junior year is the most critical time period for college-bound students. By taking the October ACT®/SAT®, our juniors set themselves up with a plump cushion of time for retakes, if needed. Let’s be real: most students need to take the ACT® or SAT® about two or three times before they achieve a satisfactory score.
Starting early also allows them to test and receive vital feedback on their score and test performance, so that they can really understand what areas require the most focus. Having this feedback at this juncture in their college-readiness process allows them (and you!) to be strategic about their test-prep goals and objectives, and keep a steady pace toward those academic targets.
For Seniors: Senior year is all about maximizing the time students have left, and students who wish to achieve and submit a solid test score before college application deadlines still have a chance in October. In fact, seniors who take advantage of the October tests should receive their scores back in time for their choice colleges’ regular decision admissions. Sure, waiting until this point to attempt a high test score is risky, but well worth it—even if just for one more point!
