The Most Important Questions About Digital SAT® Score Reports Answered
The tutoring and test-prep community have been busy preparing for College Board’s new digital SAT®, set to launch in the US and US territories in spring 2024.
At this point, we have been able to preview the digital SAT® and even check out College Board’s practice tests to get a feel for the online format. We also have a basic understanding of how the adaptive testing format works, and we even know what to expect on the digital SAT® Math and digital SAT® Reading and Writing modules. But, will there be any changes to the digital SAT® score reports?
Here are the most frequently asked questions about the digital SAT® score report answered to help you better prepare your clients for the digital SAT®.
Digital SAT® FAQs
Q: Will the digital SAT® still be scored on a 1600 scale?
A: Yes, the digital SAT® will remain on the exact same 400-1600 scale for the total score. The Reading and Writing section will be scored on a range from 200-800 points, and so will the Math section.
Q: Will there be congruity between digital SAT® scores and paper-based SAT® scores?
A: Yes, College Board attests that the digital SAT® scores are calibrated to provide accurate measures in line with the current SAT®. A 1250 on the paper-based test is equal to a 1250 on the new, digital test.
Q: Can students submit their digital SAT® scores to colleges, universities, and scholarship programs?
A: Yes, digital SAT® scores can be submitted the exact same way that current SAT® test scores are submitted.
Q: When will digital SAT® scores be delivered?
A: At this time, College Board does not have an exact time frame posted; however, digital SAT® scores will be delivered much faster—days rather than weeks.
Q: How do students get their digital SAT® scores?
A: Online. Students can access their digital SAT® scores through their College Board account. Digital SAT® scores will be reported with all other scores in one electronic score report the same way that they are currently delivered.

If students choose to get their digital SAT® scores by phone, there is an additional fee.
Q: Will digital SAT® score reports change?
A: No. The information that has always been included in SAT® score reports will remain unchanged:
Total score
Section scores (Reading and Writing, Math)
Score comparisons (school, district, state, nation)
Percentile rankings (school, district, state, nation)
Benchmark progress
Knowledge and skills in content areas and domains (for score improvement with links to practice resources)
Practice resources
BigFuture®: college and career planning resources
The only major change on the SAT® score report occurred back in 2022, when information for students regarding two-year colleges, workforce training, and career opportunities were added. Those recommendations are based on the test taker’s individual interests, academic and extracurricular achievements, and financial goals. This addition to the score report serves to help students make the most informed decisions for their future.
Q: How will high schools, colleges, universities, and scholarship programs use digital SAT® scores?
A: Digital SAT® scores will be utilized in the exact same manner that they are currently used: to make better, more informed decisions. For more information on how SAT® scores are currently used, check out our post: ACT® and SAT® Scores: What Do High Schools and Colleges Gain From Them?

Note: The digital SAT® has already launched internationally, and registration is currently open for fall 2023 test dates. In the US and US territories, however, test takers will have to continue the wait until spring 2024 for the digital SAT® to replace the paper-and-pencil version.
